Tuomo & Markus is a music band from Helsinki, founded by the well-known Finnish soul artist and jazz musician Tuomo Prättälä and singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng from the Finnish rock band The Latebirds.

Originally united by their love for music of The Band and the American singer/songwriter tradition, the duo has ventured in many musical directions with their two albums, spicing their americana folk sound with elements from indie rock, soul music, prog-psychedelia and experimental jazz.

Prättälä is a graduate of Sibelius High School and Pop & Jazz Conservatory. He cites Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and especially Prince as his musical influences. He is a versatile singer and musician whose instruments include piano, keyboards and guitar.

Tuomo Prättälä not only has award-winning solo recordings, but also collaboration projects with various ensembles such as Paleface, Emma Salokoski and of course Markus.

Markus Nordenstreng is also a versatile musician and an active influencer in the music industry. He has also composed songs for other artists such as Jonna Tervomaa, Jorma Kääriäinen and Vesa-Matti Loiri and collaborated with Finnish and foreign artists in various roles.

Tuomo Prättälä and Markus Nordenstreng’s joint album Dead Circles (2016) was a case in point, garnering five-star reviews from Helsingin Sanomat to Rumba. Likewise, the recent Game Changing.

About Game Changing album:

Tuomo Prättälä and Markus Nordenstreng – singers, songwriters and co-founders of a band they named the easy way, after the ties that bind and bring this music – open Game Changing, their second album, with a contradiction we all know too well from the past two years: the sense and sound of time at once frozen and flying by; hours passing with agonizing stillness as the days and weeks run in a blur that seems to leave hope and options by the side of the road.
