The Lux Ensemble’s (Aalto, Brantelid, Koivisto, Pohjonen, Saarikettu, Uusitupa) music making indifferent combinations during the festival represents Lux Musicae’s ambition to bring interesting musicians together and give the audience a unique experience of the inspiring interaction.

The concert Omaggio – to Clara represents the theme of 2024 in its purest form, too. The pieces heard in the concert intertwine with each other through various tributes, mutual admiration and interesting details.

In particular, the influence of the gifted pianist and composer Clara Schumann (1819-1896) on her contemporaries, both as a musician and as a muse, is honoured. Clara was the wife of the composer Robert Schumann (1810-1856). Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) knocked on the Schumanns’ door as a young man, seeking Robert’s advice on his compositional work. Brahms became a lifelong friend of the family. Brahms’ support was particularly important for Clara, the mother of a family of many children, because of Robert’s illness and death, which also caused problems for the family’s livelihood. They are also thought to have been lovers.

The life of the composer Josephine Lang (1815-1880) is also intertwined with that of Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and the Schumanns. The concert’s female perspective is linked to the present by a new work “Aspen” for cello and piano by the young Maleena Linjama.
