Aili Järvelä is a versatile musician and music maker, always inspired by different genres of music. Hailing from Kaustinen, Järvelä is known as a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, violinist, producer, Järvelä’s folk musician, as well as a freelance musician in various bands and contexts. Above all, she is known as a soulful and authentic interpreter.
Järvelä is currently working on her own solo career, composing and lyrically writing all her own material herself. Järvelä released her second solo album “Älä pelkää huhtikuussa” 2023, and her first musical “Katrina” will premiere at the Lilla Teatern at The Helsinki City Theatre in January 2024.
As an arranger, Järvelä has collaborated with many top Finnish orchestras. She also works as a violinist and singer in the folk music group Bergå Folk Project, whose debut album won the Etno-Emma 2023. As a musician, Järvelä can be heard in indie-pop artist STINAKO, and occasionally as a supporting violinist in the folk music group Frigg.
Järvelä’s solo trilogy Lainattua, Sinistä, Omaa was released as three EPs during 2019-2020. Of these, the Omaa EP received five stars in Helsingin Sanomat’s review and was selected by critics as one of the best releases of 2020. The song Roihuvuori from the EP was voted one of the 50 best lyrics of the millennium by HS readers.
Järvelä performs together with Matias Tyni and Sigurdur Rögnvalddson.
Born in Veteli and graduated from the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, Matias Tyni is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. He has made music for films, games and theatre and played in several bands in genres ranging from pop to rock and folk. He has also worked as a pianist for silent film screenings at the National Audiovisual Institute.
Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson is an Icelandic guitarist living in Finland. His style is difficult to classify, but rock and jazz are the basis. He is also known for his improvisation skills, which is why he performs in many ensembles. In addition to Järvelä, Jori Huhtala in Talambo, with Anni Elif, Rauol Björkenheim, Tatu Rönkö and Pauli Lyytinen. Rögnvaldsson’s discography is impressive.
