Children’s opera Vickan & Väinö, composed by Cecilia Damström

The story is about two mice that meet at the home of architect Carl Ludwig Engel in Helsinki in the 1840s. Vickan comes from Stockholm and Väinö from Ulvila. Competing architect Philip Löw has stolen Engel’s plans, but miraculously the mice learn to understand each other and are lucky to get the drawings back.

The bilingual children’s opera had its world premiere in 2019. The work has been written and directed by Marina Motaleff-Kelly. Set and costume Tarmo Tanttu.

In roles:

Vickan: Hedvig Paulig,

Väinö: Topias Lundell,

Engell: Aku Rantama

Accordion: Janne Valkeajoki

The work is aimed especially at children aged 4-10 and is intended to introduce children to our second language, Swedish, and to see how easily we can learn to understand each other.
