Let us rest by the spring
The songs of Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795) performed in the style of their time will be heard in the concert of Pentti Hildén’s trio: Hildén, vocals and lute, Anna Villberg’s soprano, Markus Pelli baroque cello and drum, and dramatic direction by Antti Korhonen.
Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795) is one of the greatest poets of all time in Sweden. A rhyming virtuoso who mastered all kinds of poetry. What made him famous, however, was precisely his parody of his drinking songs, which he had time to compile and publish during his lifetime: “Fredmans Epistlar” (1790) and “Fredmans Sånger” (1791).
The concert ensemble is richly diverse and dramatically intact. The program even brings events close. After all, we were part of the Kingdom of Sweden at the time, and as we sing with the audience “Gustavs skål” in honor of Gustav III, the benefactor of Bellman, we also sing to our own ruler at the time.
Among the songs performed in Swedish, Finnish translations of Achrenius, Gottlund, Hirvisepa, Kupiainen and Ryömä can be heard, which draw a picture of the history of Bellman’s songs in Finland from the 18th century to the present day.
The concert will be held at Suitia castle on Saturday at 8 o´clock pm.
